you can tell it's the first night
of Mid-summer.
passion laces thickly
the smells of the evening air.
the luminous moon, wearing a glowing
gown of flowing white silk
makes a startled discovery as she rises
across the clear blue-black sky
speckled with sparkling stars -
the intricate entwined bodies
of lovers under misty
starlight.
tonight,
the cosmic elements,
water, air, fire, earth melt
in desire.
yin and yang entangle
in an infinity-embrace.
stiff-jointed and left-footed
from the cold, cold clutches of winter,
forbidden lovers sashay.
dance in a trance
to the strains of celestial rhapsodies
strummed on lyres and
kissed on flutes.
the huntress Diana
takes a reprieve
from the day-long hunt.
let's her flaming
hair cascade loose and fragrant.
and sighs to see Cupid's arrow strike.
Venus,
seductive and voluptuous,
casts her blazing erotic
mating spell on all birds
and beasts.
peacock-green leaves
float in an enchanted daze
to the ground leaving
the boughs heavy with milky-white
flowers that glow
blue-sapphire under moonlight.
in passion,
lover's hearts like kiln-scorched
red earth and dizzy lines of pouring monsoon rain,
sizzle, mingle and become one.
it is the first night of Mid-summer.
i offer my scented Self
in a delicate filigreed jade bowl
at Earth's jeweled feet.
