Place Values
by Lucille Younger
I've never hesitated to ask for
and give
a hug when a hug is needed.
There is value in the pocket
where limbs intertwine
and heartbeats share cadence
in a healing embrace.
But I've not been reluctant
to offer
a "no" when proffered a chance
to be wrapped up in you,
my pelt sized and stretched
from center to circumference
like a prized caribou.
I have nothing but respect
and pay
homage to the premise of a
well-timed, well-placed no
but, I value even more
through complexities that I store
an ill-timed, out-of-place yes.
