Winter's Night

by Eunice Perkins
Golden moon in full bloom
Above a crisp winter's night
Lays a shimmering scarf
On the dark expanse of water.

A mantle of frost draped
Over the floodlit landscape
Covers the shivering trees
With a glistening overcoat.

The sea lovingly wraps a white shawl
Around the shoulders of the beach
As it snuggles ever closer
To the protection of the cliffs.

From within the winter bushland
The call of a lonely morepork,
Advertising itself to the night,
Shatters the icy stillness.
